Chiquita Canyon is located approximately 3 miles west of the Interstate 5 on State Route 126 in the Santa Clarita Valley. Following are some basic facts about us:

• We have been in operation since 1972 and have been an active member of the Santa Clarita Valley community for decades.
• Only non-hazardous solid waste is accepted for disposal at Chiquita Canyon. The solid waste received at the site consists of residential and commercial waste, including yard waste, clean fill soil and construction debris.

Enhanced environmental protection. With Waste Connections' network of haulers and transfer stations, Chiquita Canyon receives most of its waste from larger capacity transfer vehicles rather than numerous small collection trucks - resulting in greater screening of waste, less traffic and less air and noise pollution in the communities around the landfill.

Improved appearance and operation. Chiquita Canyon has redesigned the landfill entrance, paved over a mile of on-site roads, improved roads at the landfill which have reduced dust and improved cleanliness of Highway 126.

Improved environmental monitoring. Chiquita Canyon has expanded the storm water management system and added groundwater monitoring wells.

Implementation of unique vector control program. Rather than using traditional methods to frighten away birds, such as noise-making devices, we have turned to Mother Nature to solve the problem. We use falcons to chase the birds away. They are trained to make their fly pattern, frighten off the other birds, and return for their food reward.
