Santa Clarita, Wednesday, September 10, 2004 - Chiquita Canyon was awarded the Amistad "Business Community Leader" Award at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Business Committee's inaugural "Excelencia Awards Gala" held on September 10, 2004 at the Hyatt Valencia. Chiquita Canyon, a landfill company located in Val Verde, was nominated for both the Community Leader of the Year and Corporate Partner of the Year awards.
Through the Val Verde Community Benefits Funding Committee Chiquita Canyon has been an active supporter of Val Verde civic programs. Chiquita Canyon has given more than $1 million to the Val Verde community which has been used to fund various community programs.
Recognizing the need to support Latino businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley, Chiquita Canyon sponsored the inaugural Business Mixer for the newly formed Hispanic Business Committee in April 2004. In addition, Chiquita Canyon has provided numerous self-improvement programs for their predominately Latino workforce. These programs have allowed their employees to complete their education, develop leadership skills and prepare for promotions.
