September 8, 2005 - Organizers of the Castaic Chamber of Commerce's free summer community mixer are anticipating more than 3,000 area residents will attend their event tonight at the Castaic Regional Sports Complex. The mixer is a way for Castaic companies to thank local residents for their business, said Tracy Jara, president of the Castaic Chamber of Commerce. "The community mixer is a thank you to the community for its patronage all year long," Jara said. "Everything (at the mixer) is free for the community. The only thing that costs (any money) is a raffle." It is also a chance for people to make contacts in the community, and for chamber members to showcase their goods and services. The event is scheduled to include free food, rides and entertainment, as well as 50 booths. Exhibitors include local businesses, law enforcement agencies, members of the military and Los Angeles County officials. The summer community mixer runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Castaic Regional Sports Complex is located at 31230 Castaic Road. Admission is free. Entertainment is scheduled to include performances by the Mike Stanton Band, Mark Eddie - Comedy that Rocks, The Shane Mohler Band and a karate demonstration by Easy-West Nippon. The title sponsor for the mixer is Chiquita Canyon, which donated $1,000 of the $20,000 raised for the event.
The Castaic Chamber of Commerce started its summer community mixer after Sept. 11, 2001, as a tribute to the men and women serving in the United States armed forces. The event has since changed into a salute of the people of Castaic.
