Eric Moses (213) 438-1755 Santa Clarita, September 23, 2008 - Some people race cars, others race boats, but at the 6th Annual Rubber Ducky Regatta, community members will race rubber ducks on Castaic Lake for a chance to win prizes and raise money for the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc. (SDFHC). The organization is a non-profit community health center that provides health care to uninsured patients in the greater Santa Clarita Valley. The health center operates three health facilities: Canyon Country Health Center, Val Verde Health Center and Newhall Health Center. Chiquita Canyon, a landfill company in the Santa Clarita Valley, has aided the clinic's Val Verde facility for several years and is supporting this year's fundraiser. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich will serve as honorary chair of the event. Participants will pledge $5 and adopt a rubber duck at Castaic Lake Recreation Area on October 18, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. "Chiquita Canyon is proud to once again partner with such an important service organization in our community," said Chiquita Canyon General Manager Mike Dean. "The Rubber Ducky Regatta offers a fun event for the whole family while contributing to a great cause; it is truly a reflection of the Santa Clarita Valley spirit." Parents will see their adoptive duck at the lake's starting line at 1 p.m. The race begins at 1 p.m. when the rubber ducks are propelled to the finish line. Prizes will be distributed to parents of the fastest ducks, prizes include: $10,000 maturity value savings bond, firehouse children's playhouse, mountain bikes, two passes to Magic Mountain theme park and others. The community-wide event also offers an array of activities including: face painting, live music and food vendors that attracted 10,000 community members last year. "We are looking forward to this year's event. Last year Rubber Ducky Regatta raised approximately $65,000 with support from companies like Chiquita Canyon and we are grateful to have their support once again," said Cheryl Laymon, Executive Director for Samuel Dixon Family Health Center.
