Val Verde, Saturday, July 31, 2004 - Children, families and neighbors gathered at Val Verde Park to celebrate civic duty and pride at Val Verde Day. The event was arranged by the Val Verde Community Benefits Funding Committee (CBFC), a non-profit community based organization responsible for allocating funds from Chiquita Canyon landfill provided annually for community programs in Val Verde. This annual celebration featured carnival games, rides and music from local artists. Neighbors came out to enjoy the festivities and viewed displays featuring the community programs made possible by funding from Chiquita Canyon landfill. The CBFC also presented the "Val Verde Volunteer of the Year Award" honoring the strong volunteer spirit on which this tight-knit community prides itself. Over the last five years, the Val Verde CBFC has directed resources towards many of Val Verde's valued organizations and programs including: Samuel Dixon Health Clinic, Val Verde Bus Pass Program for Youth and Senior Citizens, parks and recreation programs, Community Clean-Up and more.
